The Faculty of Architecture at Brno University of
Technology will once again be taking part in the Film and Architecture Festival
this year. At the end of September and beginning of October, it will host three film screenings showcasing architecture from various perspectives, ranging from
experimental buildings inspired by the Bauhaus to everyday life in
prefabricated blocks of flats. The screenings are open to the general public
and admission is free.
Programme
- Prickly Mountain and My Design/Build Life
30 September 2026 at 6.00 pm, FA BUT
This documentary by director Allie Rood follows the
story of a group of young architects who settled in Vermont in the 1960s and
decided not only to draw their designs but also to build them themselves.
Inspired by the legacy of the Bauhaus, they created a series of original houses
that combine an experimental approach, craftsmanship and a focus on the needs
of their inhabitants. The film offers an inspiring insight into the beginnings
of the Design/Build movement and the figures who shaped it.

- Empathy with Concrete
2 October 2026 at 6.00 pm, FA BUT
In his personal documentary, director Gregory Gan
returns to the setting of Soviet-era prefabricated blocks of flats, where he
once lived and worked. Together with other artists, he explores their past and
present, and through watercolours, digital animation and stop-motion
techniques, captures the aesthetics and stories associated with prefabricated
housing. The film presents modern architecture as a space for utopian visions,
but also as a witness to social changes and crises.
The screening will also feature the personal
participation of director Gregory Gan; after the screening, visitors will have
the opportunity to discuss the film’s creation and the themes it raises.
