FA BUT Students Win Special Award at Collegium Artisticum 2025

The international project RED Kiosk Transformer, involving students from the Faculty of Architecture at Brno University of Technology, received the Special Prize for Student Work at the Collegium Artisticum 2025 exhibition – the most prestigious annual showcase of architecture, urbanism, and design in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The pop-up spatial installation was created in October 2024 during an international student workshop in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The workshop explored the redesign and reuse potential of the iconic Yugoslav kiosk K67, originally designed by architect Saša Mächtig in 1966. The resulting installation highlights the kiosk’s key features – modularity, flexibility, prefabrication, and transformability – through a deconstructivist, experimental approach. It was inspired by Mächtig’s axonometric diagram and reimagined as a structure that allows viewers, especially students, to explore the kiosk’s components, materials, and details firsthand.

The installation opened with a recreation of a typical urban scene, reflecting the way the kiosk exists in collective memory. The jury – prof. Leo Modričin, assoc. prof. Rok Kuhar, and architect Aleksandar Lilić – praised the pedagogical and architectural value of the project and its role in fostering international collaboration in architectural education.

FA BUT participants:
Ing. arch. Kristýna Smržová, Petr Preininger, Sofia Maksymova, Aneta Gallová, Jakub Suchanek, and Adéla Ťupová.

The project (Iconic) RED Kiosk – A Journey to Modernist Heritage is part of the xRED experiment, developed by the Center for Spatial Research and the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, University of Banja Luka, in cooperation with CULTstore Novi Sad (Serbia), Kobra Arch Brno (Czech Republic), and the K67 restoration team in Celje (Slovenia). The project is supported by the CEEPUS A.B.C.D. network, DOCOMOMO BiH, and sponsors including the Danube Small Project Fund and MB Modul.
