The school magazine is back with a new open call!

The release of the next issue will kick off with an opening open call themed New Beginnings. You can submit your ideas for contributions until 21/07/2024. More information can be found below.

UPDATE: The open call is open until the end of September.

FASÁDA magazine has a vision to create an inclusive space for student creation at the faculty. In 2018, SOFA founded a faculty periodical under the title FAart. It was a student magazine, mapping mainly events at the faculty, current cultural events or upcoming workshops. The periodical managed to be published fairly regularly. During the covid and until 2020, SOFA has already published four issues. The last and ambitious issue of FArt in a new graphic design with the subtitle RESTART was published in 2021, signaling an effort to revive both visually and the structure of the magazine itself.

After a long break, the magazine is back again, this time with a new FACADE. With the new name comes the opportunity to rethink the role of the magazine. Unlike the previous FArt, the primary goal of FASÁDY is not to inform about current cultural events - both within and outside the faculty, but rather to create a space where students can freely share their work, articulate their opinions and together shape events at the faculty.

In the magazine, different opinions do not compete with each other, but instead open up space for constructive dialogue. That is also why its structure is not pre-defined, but based on the interest of the students to get involved, whether I send a contribution or through the implementation itself. The ongoing open call is the first test of the magazine's new concept. With it, it will become clear whether the faculty is really interested in filling this space, or whether FASÁDA will find itself, like past magazines, in the faculty's abyss of history.

Open call:

Beginnings come in various forms; they stand for big goals we have set for ourselves, situations we have not yet experienced, or the next steps of our lives. However, in the constant focus on the end, we tend to overlook the precarious nature of beginnings.
Praised as an opportunity for change, undertaking them often feels rather uncomfortable and awkward. As moments of instability and chaos, it is only natural that we try to ignore them altogether.

With the next academic year just ahead of us, we are all entering into new territory. We are bearing memory from our past beginnings which others are only preparing to overcome. How can we pass on this knowledge to make the following beginnings a bit more bearable?
How do we create an environment for sharing these unique, yet common experiences of beginnings? And finally, can the understanding of this perpetual nature change the narrative of beginnings to come?

We are excited to receive any kind of contribution; interview, essay, poem, biography, photo essay, crossword, sudoku, review of a book, movie or exhibition and anything else we forgot to mention. The magazine has no official language, so write in Czech, Slovak,
English, German or any language in which you can best express yourself.

And how to participate in the open call?

Send us a short abstract (max 150 words in .pdf format) which roughly describes your intended proposal and format that you wish to submit. The deadline for abstracts is 21/07/2024 and you should send them to xaondrackovaa@vutbr.cz. This is not a selection
process; we would just like to get an idea of the general interest in this kind of platform and to know what to expect. The deadline for submitting final versions of your contributions is 25/08/2024. Submissions will be published in this year's first issue
which will be released at the semester opening event.

We are already looking forward to your contributions! In case of any questions, remarks, or ideas, dont hesitate to write to us <3
