The exhibition New Visions for the Capuchin Cloister in Opočno continues at the Regional Office of the Hradec Králové Region

A different place - same vision. The exhibition of student projects New Visions for the Capuchin Monastery in Opočno has moved from the Kodym National House in Opočno to the Regional Office of the Hradec Králové Region.
The travelling exhibition, which was originally presented as part of the October Architecture Day, presents a collection of works by students whose long-standing interest is to find possible ways to save an empty monument surrounded by a beautiful and peaceful garden.
The city, in cooperation with the region, approached two Czech architecture colleges, one from Brno and the other from Prague, to contribute their ideas and bring a new perspective to this preserved but until recently abandoned historic site, which has fulfilled a number of beneficial functions since its inception (monastery, refuge for the persecuted during the World Wars, healing hospital). "Giving a new chance to old buildings at a time of crisis, when the school and hospital in Opočno are closing, is a difficult task and a challenge to contribute to such a demanding task", says Associate Professor Jiří Palacký, project leader. "This place with a great memory has its own specific atmosphere, which we tried to evoke during the workshop. We used various methods, for example, working in the monastery in the gloom, during which the students engaged all their senses," adds architect Tomková, a PhD student - a participant in the workshop, on the basis of which the exhibition project was created.
