VéDePka in Litovla will present its possible future with a festival

The building of the former 3rd burgher brewery nicknamed "Védepka" has been decaying for decades. Students from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Technology in Brno and the Czech University of Technology in Prague proposed its possible uses, which will bring the missing layer of low-threshold culture to the city, not only for young people. Designs for the brewery, museum, or workshops can be seen until September 29 at Přemysl Otakar Square, from where they will be moved directly to the VéDePky premises. As part of the exhibition, an accompanying program for the Day of Architecture festival is also prepared on September 30.

The area of ??the former brewery is located in the places where the city fortifications historically stood. VéDePka in the green-blue ring of Litovle with its connection to the river represents great potential for the development of the city. Now there is a dump of wrecks and dilapidations in the area. That's why seven students of the FA BUT in the studio of professors Ivan Koleček and Vojtěch Jemelka and three students of the Faculty of Architecture from CTU from the studio of Sitta-Chmelová started designing the possible future of the campus.

The survey preceding the proposals showed that there is a lack of low-threshold, unofficial culture in Litovla, especially for young people. A large part of the young generation leaves for entertainment or life elsewhere. Therefore, some of the proposals come with a new community center of independent culture, which would complement and support the current happenings in the city. The students are converting another place into spaces for informal education and craft workshops, or a brewery restaurant, a multifunctional hall, or a brewing museum. All designs have a common element – ??a courtyard, filled with activities, open to the river and allowing relaxation and recreation on the waterfront. Another reason for the outflow of young people and the aging of the city is the low availability of housing. Therefore, the students also incorporated a high-quality contemporary apartment solution into the proposals, which is in line with the intention of the city management to create new capacities.
On Saturday 30.9. the installation will move to the VéDePky area, where, as part of the Day of Architecture festival, guided tours of the walled circuit and the VéDePky area and the surrounding area are prepared from 1 p.m. From 3 p.m., there will be a vernissage in the courtyard, which also includes presentations and discussions with the authors in the authentic premises of the brewery's cellars. The official program will end in the courtyard at 17:30 with a concert by the band No Barriers, who, in addition to their own creations in impulsive Czech-Bosnian rhythms, can also interpret world hits in such a way that they will make you dance.

The vision for Litovel does not end only with the exhibition. The studio assignment of young architects led the locals to create the platform www.vedipkazije.cz. Visitors to the website can not only view individual projects, but also get an overview of planned events and, above all, actively participate in finding the most suitable filling for a valuable building in the future. The exhibition was supported by the city of Litovel and the Via foundation, the Litovel brewery and the KRUH association.
