Prom as a ritual. FA BUT has 126 new graduates

The graduation ceremony underwent a major overhaul this year. It was moved to the HaTheater. The new scenography and dramaturgy was designed by architects MArch Ing. arch. Jan Kristek, Ph.D. and Ing. arch. Paulína Závacká. The inspiration came from the ritual in the landscape. A total of one hundred and twenty-six young architects received their diplomas.

Graduation is the imaginary end of several years of effort. It is a ceremony during which graduates receive their diplomas and have a space to thank their parents and other loved ones for their upbringing and support during their studies. It is an experience that will be etched in the memory. It is a tradition that deserves to be cherished and brought into the twenty-first century. That's why this year the diploma ceremony has been revised.

The ceremony has moved to the premises of Brno's HaDivadlo, which offers a variable theatre stage, which the authors of the set design have arranged centrally, as a so-called arena. The concept of MArch Ing. arch. Jan Kristek, Ph.D. and Ing. arch. Paulína Závacká was based on the prototype of a ritual space where all important events take place in the centre. The central motif was a lectern symbolizing the earth element - fire. The guardians of the fire were represented by academic dignitaries. The insignia with a luminous hoop by Slovak artist MgA. Michal Mitra spread light. The central arrangement almost blurred the boundary between the auditorium and the stage. The atmosphere evoked the natural scenery, including ambient sounds of the forest and the theatrical lighting, which started the graduation with "dawn" and ended with "evening reds". Fanfares and music were sung by the mixed choir Vox Iuvenalis under the baton of doc. Mgr. MgA. Jan Ocetek, Ph.D. accompanied by organist Mgr. Martin Jakubíček.

After taking the ceremonial graduation oath, the Dean of the Faculty awarded Ing. arch. Radek Suchánek, Ph.D. permission to graduate. The diplomas of sixty-seven bachelors and fifty-nine masters were handed over by the Vice-Dean for Creative Activities doc. Ing. arch. Nina Bartošová, Ph.D. The role of promoter was assumed by the Vice-Dean for Studies Ing. arch. Jan Foretník, Ph.D. The secretary of the faculty Ing. Petr Sedlák. On behalf of the Rector of Brno University of Technology, doc. Ing. Ladislav Janíček, Ph.D., MBA, LL.M., the Vice-Rector for Studies, Prof. RNDr. Miroslav Doupovec, CSc., dr. h. c., congratulated them.

A whole team of people participated in the preparations, including the curator Mgr. Rostislav Koryčánek, who will soon be appointed Vice-Dean for External Relations. We thank everyone who participated in the preparations for this day and lived it with us.

In addition to those mentioned above, we would like to thank in particular. Dita Havlová, Mgr. Ladislava Doubravová, Mgr. Tana Šedová, Ph.D., Ing.  Anna Kotlabová, Ing. arch. Adéla Šoborova, Petr Hasal, Benjamin Bart, Jaroslav Sure, Martin Králík, Ing. Eva Drbalová, Ondřej Sedlák, Ivan Vlnek and the whole HaDivadlo.
