Two female students won the award "Best student project JMK 2021"

At the end of April, the results of the jubilee 20th year of the Construction of the South Moravian Region competition were presented. Seven student works were also awarded, among them two from the Faculty of Architecture of the BUT from the Toman studio. The semester work International (Co)housing, an ingenious housing project for young people and the bachelor's thesis Polička – housing on the edge of the city and the countryside won the title "Best student project JMK 2021".

The first project is International (Co)housing, shared housing in Brno na Vídeňská. The author Tereza Miklušová designed, under the guidance of architect Radek Toman, an apartment building intended primarily for students and young people.

"The new development is strongly connected with greenery, not only is the house situated in a park, but plants can also be found on the facade or in the form of community roof gardens. Another of the main principles is flexibility. Openable partitions allow for variable connection of internal spaces and at the same time illuminate the entire interior. They form a divide between private and common spaces and can also provide a direct connection with the exterior. A wide common corridor with an openable facade ensures ventilation and plenty of sunlight.” Tereza Miklušová describes her project.

The work of Klarisa Ach-Hübner, also from the studio of Radek Toman , Polička – living on the edge of the city and countryside has already received one award in the past, for the best bachelor's thesis at the Faculty of Architecture at BUT.

The Řady project stops the last free field between the Police satellites. The development is designed to waste as little space as possible, while at the same time providing its residents with sufficient comfort and freedom. The regular grid of long linear houses is crossed by paths in the shape of curves and divided into Rows. The structures on the border between the apartment building and the street have a common corridor, storage or social spaces, so they act like an apartment building. On the other hand, each house is independent, has its own privacy and garden.

The main urban plan is to try to save as much space as possible, which we often waste in the suburbs, to avoid strips of unused space around houses located in the middle of the plot. People should be given their own piece of land in the form of gardens attached to the houses. The residential units are private and operationally separate from each other. However, given the current state of real estate prices, houses are within reach of the majority of society. Privacy will be set by the resident himself. It can thus be reflected in the degree of sharing of the garden or social spaces. There is also a form of civic amenities and public spaces, which, however, will not have the ambition to compete with or replace the center of Polička.

Congratulations to both students, Tereza and Klaris, on their success!
